First Thursday of the year

Tonight me and Dad went out and did the back 9 at Scenic City and we were pleasantly surprised to be joined by Phil from work. the group from work did the front 9 and he joined us at 10. Phil can really hit the ball. dad whacked a few good ones too and i think had a real good time. i hit the ball pretty good but was pretty poor at the short game and ran out of gas down the stretch as i was tired and it was HOT! i got one par and played decent, but bad short game (like i said) can't wait for next week! Golfing with Grandpa Dale

First round of the season with Dale. We did 9 this afternoon at Whispering Hills in Hanover...it was in pretty good shape. I was quite happy with my play, I drove fairly well off the tee, i only 3 putted twice (which was still bad), my most used club was my pitching wedge which means that i did fairly well from far out. no complaints...my touch was poor around the green but that's a recurring problem. lots to build on. weather was good...it was light last night until about quarter to 9 so i think me and Dad may start my adventure of doing 9 holes on Thursday nights after the kids are down...and work is doing something on June 16th at Sauble so i think there will be more golf than last year. 2012 Totals

Dad's gonna pound me

went to the driving range with my father today and (using the driver i bought him for xmas) he hit the hell out of the ball...i sucked as usual :) we're going to play every thursday this year (allegedly) after the kids go down at 6:45 it felt good :)

Me and Dad did 9 at Scenic

me and dad went and did 9 holes at Scenic today. he got 3 birdies (which has got to be a modern day record for us). he hit the long ball good...two of the birdies were on par 5's...he's much better on long irons than i am, even using my own hybrid against me :) i played okay hit some good ones, hit some bad ones. driver was best club...putter was most inconsistent...need to get out more. oh well...maybe in september :)

jeez i'm doing this late

Last Wesnesday me and Dale went to Walkerton to play on the bull tour. I hit the ball further and more consistently with the driver and long irons than i have ever probably...my putting, chipping and short game were TERRIBLE. on #8, a 200 yard par 3 over water, i cracked it with my 3 wood, was a little left, hit a tree and rolled onto the green for a LONG birdie putt...i turned it into a 6. very slow greens, or maybe i just underputted but everything was short. dale hit a LOT of trees...had a great time, can't wait to go out again. Dale had a spare cart so he gave it to Dad, so can't wait to get playing the K106 tour on Thursdays in August with him

Golf golf golf

Me and Dale went golfing yesterday at Ainsdale golf just outside of where they camp in Kincardine. Previous attempts resulted in mother nature raining on us. We did 9 holes at 7:15 in the morning. It's a very nice course...straightforward layout e.g. you could see every flag from the tee on the front 9 except number 2. Number 2, you had to hit it over water, then out of a gulley, then up to the green. Interesting hole. I did okay but Dale was scorching. he had 3 or 4 GIRs i think. My putter was my best club, then my short irons, then my long irons, then by driver. I putted quite well. My driver...everything was to the right...i may have to crack out the Golf yoga again. A lot of fun though...next up is Walkerton with the bull tour on Wednesday

i think i actually won

me, dale, dad and Roland went out to play 9 at Scenic City this morning. I think I beat the pants off them...i only had 3 shots that went 5 feet or so (which was good). i chipped very well (two were good enough to tap in) and i only three putted twice (if memory serves). i was very happy with my play...i had two shots at pars and one at a birdie (which turned into a shot at par and turned into a bogey...one of my three putts). all in all it was a lot of fun...personalities meshed, etc etc. i'd like to do that again if possible.

Lovely day for golf

got up this morning, it was about 10 degrees, raining on and off and oh yeah we were golfing

did my first 9 of the year at Scenic City. First tee I hit it pretty good, and it hit a tree just to the right of the tee and it went a total of -4 yards. the day got better from there. i only three putted once, i chipped unbelievably (i think i only missed 2 greens on my first attempt) and i ended up with a 54, including 9 on the first two holes. i really didn't get into that much trouble and my short game was really good. i was really happy with my 3-iron...it wasn't perfect but it was more good than it was bad(?)

i got a par on the 8th hole. good drive, second shot left me short of the green, third shot put it within 8 feet and i hit the put. i didn't have any other shots at par (i don't think) but my whole day was kinda like that. good day

Driving range...it's a start

went and did a little golf therapy tonight at scenic at the driving range. mother nature and other things have aligned themselves against me so i haven't been out golfing yet...going to a charity golf thing on Friday so i had to try and work out some of the rust. i took my 9 iron, brand new taylor-made 3 iron (thanks UB) and driver to the driving range. the 3 was all i hoped it would be but no more excuses...i really like my long iron. if i take my time and swing smoothly i should be okay on friday but i really have no expectations...and it's best ball...it will be nice to get out. if i missed, i missed to the right, which was an interesting development. fun fun fun...golf golf golf

2011 golf season is here!

Scenic City opened on April 1st so me and Chrystelle went to the driving range, and who did we run in to but Uncle Blaine with his new set of clubs. i bought a bucket and brought my 5 and 7. i swung the 5 like a driver with expected results, but did fairly well with my 7. my wrist is killing me which leads me to believe that i am curling my wrist when i swing. somethign to think about.

Nevada Bob's

went to the mall last night with the family and the Nevada Bob's Golf at Sportcheck opened up. They even had a net to hit the balls into. Didn't see anything I really liked or any great deals but it was nice to have somewhere in town i can go for golf stuff

one last round for the season

So after a month of parenting, working a second job and just enjoying life, i finally was able to do 9 holes today after work. Me, Blaine and Pam went to Scenic City (for the first time in a while as i had that pass). The golf wasn't great, my wrist is killing me, but it was a lot of fun. I was too passive with the irons...EVERYTHING was short...putts...irons...chips...something to keep in mind next year...i think i only had one chance for a par (which i missed). it was fun...course was in decent shape but some holes were really wet and some were really dry so it was hard to get a read for the greens...like i needed an excuse :) this is probably it for 2010 unless i win the million (please please please)

i think i had a good year even with having two young babies. my lack of golf through the month of august was solely because i decided to keep my second job as opposed to anything that the kids or jane did or didn't do.

16 with Dale and Dad

Me, Dale and Dad went to Northern Dunes yesterday for a 7;32 tipoff time. I was terrible off the tee, which made for a lon day. My shots from 50 yards and in (including chipping) were the weakest part of my game. My 5 iron was good, my hybrid, 6 and 7 were decent. Rest not good. We had a lot of laughs...i think that may be my last trip to Northern Dunes this year...it's a tough course...i said partway through to Dad that I miss Scenic :)

another 9 at northern dunes

Played 9 more at Northern Dunes today with Roland. Golf was so-so, had some good conversation. I actually played pretty well. i got into some trouble with my chipping and my putting was bad, but all in all i played pretty good. consistently good with my driver and i gave my hybrid a chance. i had quite a few chances for pars...all of which i missed :) Hopefully going back on Friday with Dale and Dad

Did 9 with Dana and Dad

i got to use my free 18 hole pass tonight with Dad and Dana...we did 9 after work. they can't use them very often because the guy didn't know enough to give it back to me :) we walked and it was hot...dad played really well....he hit a lot of good iron shots that left him putting instead of short chipping...beat me by 10 strokes over 9 holes. dana hit some good ones, but needs shorter clubs! she was often an inch high on the ball. i hit some okay tee shots and some okay long irons...even hit some good ones with the hybrid (in all fairness, i gave the hybrid more use than i have in a long time)...my short game was *awful*. 3 times i overshot the green from within 100 yards...on the first hole i took 3 shots to get out of the bunker...there were lots of "too short" chips. all in all i think we all had a good time...i'm going to talk to Dale about golfing this weekend (Sunday maybe) and Dad said he would come with me and Dale next Friday. The course was in great shape, I just didn't play particularly well...and like i said dad played so well that it made it seem like i played even worse :) i didn't have any terrible holes (except the first but that's expected), and except for the short game there weren't too many bad shots...i just didn't have any great ones. i will say, despite carrying my bag for the first time in years, it didn't seem as long as it has some other times...must be getting used to it :)

I actually won something...am I semi-professional now?

Went out and played a best ball tournament for the Knights of Columbus with Chrystelle, Brüno and his wife Kathy at Northern Dunes and we had a blast. The golf was very slow we did 18 holes in 5 hours. the dinner afterwards was good. I golfed okay. Same as always...did good off the tee...inconsistent with my irons. In my head I hit the 6 iron about 20-40 yards further than i actually do :) I putted decently, but with best ball it's hard to get a rhythm i find. But after dinner I was the champ. I won a free month's worth of golf at Northern Dunes, which i'm sure my wife with 3 month old kids will think is a great thing.

Ironically before dinner I was thinking "I've played Northern Dunes enough for this year, this will probably be the last time I play". I also won three other random draws (golf club covers, golf balls and garden shears that I gave to Chrystelle since she won nothing). If my numbers were going to come up for the 649 it was last night. :) We played so badly that I'm amazed that I have ever been able to get a birdie or a par :) 14th hole was the "long drive" hole and I thought I did pretty good when i blasted it...past the marker...turns out it was the ladies marker and the men's was at least 40 or 50 yards past where mine ended up. good times...not sure if I'd do it again because of the best ball. think there will be more updates before august 16th :)

I'm golfing in Kincardine on Friday with Jane's dad, uncle and Aunt. I'm sure Jane will be ready to kill me by August 16th...i figure once a weekend I will go with either Jane's dad, my own dad or whatever in the morning for 9 and I'll pay half.

my sister has taken up golf as well

my sister has never golfed before but is going to Whistle Bear (where they had the 2005 Canadian Open) next week because she works for RIM and that is where they are doing their annual golf thing next week. So earlier in the year I bought her a used set of left golf clubs (for $10) and this week we went out twice to the driving range at Scenic City. This is what she looked like after the first day



the second time she wore a glove. she was pretty darn good! i told her just to try and get contact with the ball and we were aiming at the 100 sign. she consistently hit the ball. she had lots of questions, which was great...she wanted to know what the "little circle thing" was (gets balls out of the water). she was afraid we'd hit the lady that was collecting golf balls (i told her there's a cage on her so that's who we aim for). we had a good time. we may go out on sunday as well

1 step forward, 2 steps back

did not have a good round of golf today at Northern Dunes with Blaine and Dale. I may have drank too much beer but even before that I was terrible. My irons and my hybrid are back in the doghouse. I got the sh*nks on hole 3 and they basically didn't go away. Live and learn! We had a good time but I definitely didn't play very well. They gave us a sleeve of 3 balls each but i bet we each lost that in the first 4 holes :)
